Every computer has a processor and every processor needs a way in which to stay cool or it will overheat which can cause your processor to malfunction. The most common way in which to cool the processor is by air-cooling.
A heatsink fan is
- Attached to the processor
- A fan cools the heatsink
The heatsink
- Pulls the heat off from the processor
- the air moving through the heatsink’s fins pulls the heat off the heatsink
- Then into the air
The only way a heatsink fan will be cost effective is if the ambient air temperature is low enough and the heatsink can actually transfer the heat properly to keep the heat from rising in the processor.
Most of the heatsink fans you find are all aluminum, however, on today’s market you can find all copper which has been the preferred choice of many.
You can also find various heatsink fans in various shapes, sizes, and some with multiple fans.
